Hi dolls
Usually I am very skeptic when it comes to microwave cooking, because most of the things I tried weren't that great.A few days ago I had a skype call with the lovely Kitty Rose Lovet and she was making microwave potatoes during that call. And since she is a potato lover like I am,I had to try that too.
Google had the instructions.
You need:
1 large or 2 medium sized potatoes
margarine,pepper,salt
water
(your favorite topping)
Scrub the potatoes well under hot water, poke some holes (5-10) in the potatoes with a fork,so the potato's steam can escape.
Place the potatoes in a deep dish with a little bit of water at the bottom (6-10 tablespoons) and insert into your microwave.
Cook on high setting for 5 minutes, then turn the potatoes over and cook for another 5 min.Insert a knife to check if the potato core is done.If not,add 2 min of cooking time.Slit the potato open, add a teaspoon of margarine and season with pepper and salt.
You can serve the potato with sour cream, cheddar and bacon or with some soft cheese spread, herbs and garlic.
I will definitely make this recipe again, because 40 minutes of oven baking time versus 10 minutes of microwaving is a clear victory for the microwave.

DIY 2 in 1 Lipstick and cream blush
Hi dollies
Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, but I was caught up in negative thoughts and listless apathy.
I went through my lipstick drawer and found a poor crappy lipstick palette which I rarely use because the colors are a little on the senior citizen side.So I thought "lets scoop out all the colors, melt them and turn them into a 2 in 1 product"
I ended up using 3 of the 5 colors : a very flashy pink,a weird purple and a tiiiny bit of bright red.
The purple had shimmer in it,which didn't mix too well with the other two colors, even after melting them two times.Well a little purple swirl doesn't hurt :) To give the lipstick some sort of moisturizing property I added a little cocoa butter and raw honey, which really enhanced the smell and flavor of this DIY project.
The result is quite good, especially as a cream blush it works like a charm. On the lips it lasts for about 3 hours with no eating or making out.
Huge swatch :D |
Woohooo 300 followers! Now that cheered me up big times.
Have you been making any DIY cosmetics lately? If you could wish for the perfect lipstick, what color/texture/finish would it be?
Hope you all have a fabulous day!!!!

My current nail care routine and a nail oath
Hi dolls
I have constantly been wearing nail polish for the last months. There were only a few days I allowed my nails to be bare and get a fair share of oxygen, which is not optimal. So I made an oath : No colored nail polish for at least 14 days, more intensive nail care routines and a proper nail strengthening treatment.
For a nail hardener to really work you have to follow a routine : Apply, leave on for 2 days, remove ,one day break and re-apply.But you shouldn't use a nail strengthener more than 2-3 weeks, you have to switch after.Especially the nail hardeners that don't have hydrating ingredients should not be used for more than 2 weeks, because you will end up with rock-hard,dry nails very prone to chipping.I use the essence Ultra Strong Nail Hardener and the Dido Nail hardener. The essence one does a fabulous job at hardening and the Dido one is very rich in nutrients and hydrating substances.
On the days I wear nothing at all on my nails I try to apply as much hand cream, balms, cuticle oils and olive oil lotion as possible.
Oriflame makes a wonderful Apricot and white tea hand and nail cream, which gets absorbed pretty fast and helps the nails to stay hydrated. The nail care products from essence are also a must-have,because they contain a lot of wonderful natural nail strengtheners and substances that help the nail to grow.
It actually doesn't need to be a hand-cream,because any body lotion or any moisturizer will make your nails and cuticles a lot happier.
For the night I have a special lotion, which is a cheap-ass moisturizer from the supermarket (60 cents) mixed 2:1 with olive oil.I apply this lotion, put on some latex gloves and sleep. This is one of the best ways to give your nails tons of nutrients and moisture.
Dolls,I am sorry I won't show you any fancy nail art on my nails, you will see some of the experimental looks I do on fake nails :D
It is quite amazing to see how much the condition of my nails has improved even after a few days.
Products listed :
Essence cuticle oil-discontinued
Essence nail care balm
Essence Ultra Strong Nail hardener -discontinued in the bottle, now available in click-pen form
Dido Nail hardener
Oriflame Apricot and white tea hand and nail cream
Supermarket brand moisturizer mixed with olive oil
Do you have any nail-holy grail-products I should know about?????

Sunday
Tip of the day : Cleaning silver jewelery
There are many tips and tricks on how to clean silver, but most of them involve rubbing or polishing it after. And toothpaste is kind of messy to tell the truth and it isn't really quick either. The following tip doesn't require a lot of fuzz.
You need:
a plastic bowl
your favorite silver jeweler
laundry detergent/washing powder (preferably the one for hand-washing or biological one)
hot water
Place all the jewelery in a bowl, add 1-2 tablespoons of washing powder and add hot (not boiling!!!) water.
Wait for 10-30 minutes depending on how dirty the jewelery is and remove it from the bowl.Rinse and pace on a towel to dry.
